Old Lahaina Luau is a very traditional luau located oceanfront in Lahaina. All of the dances are Hawaiian and tell a story of how hula has changed over the years. It is a great show. They have a choice of traditional mat seating on mats, cushions and low tables or regular table and chair seating. Open bar, full buffet dinner and a fresh flower lei. Cost is $92 + tax, children 12 and under $62. Times vary with sunset. Seating is based on when reservations are made, so let’s book this one in advance.
Ho'omana'o by Old Lahaina Luau is a morning breakfast luau including a Hawaiian Style breakfast buffet, hula performance and 3 interactive Hawaiian stations. Learn more about Hawaiian culture, use Hula implements, cast a fishing net, and throw a spear at a target. Tuesday and Friday mornings only from 9am – 12 noon. Cost is $69 per person + tax, children 12 and under $49 + tax.
Other island luaus are available at the Hyatt Regency Maui, Wailea Marriott, Maui Prince and in Waikapu. Most are a high energy Polynesian luau with dances from Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand. Prices vary, ask and we will find the best luau to meet your needs.
Ulalena. It is a production at the Maui Theatre that is truly spectacular. There isn't any English spoken, all Hawaiian. Just a fantastic show, hard to explain with words, but it is all about the demigods, myths and legends of Maui. The cost is $59.50/$69.50/$99.50 + tax, depending on seating, Standard, premium or VIP. Kids 3-15 are $39.50/$49.50/$69.50 + tax. Dinner packages are available.
Helicopter tours. Explore Maui by air, see spectacular waterfalls, fly high above Majestic Haleakala, and see the parts of Maui you can’t get to by car. West Maui Mountains 30 minute $160 Hana & Haleakala 45 minute $225 Circle Island 60 minute $270 Molokai 60 minute $270 (There might be a surcharge for a comfort seat, depending on weight (~250 lbs) and height) With the increasing cost of fuel, there is a fuel charge per passenger of $15 - $30 in addition to the rates above.
Haleakala Downhill Bike tour. The van will pick you up at the hotel/condo, provide you with all equipment and escort you down the crater road. It is a pretty steep grade with no bike lane. There is a guide to lead the group and a chase van to follow and block traffic. It is the safest way to do this activity. Continental breakfast is included. Cost is about $165 for the sunrise trip and lasts about 8 hours.
Snorkel Molokini, I highly suggest the Mahana Naia out of Maalaea Harbor. It is a sailing catamaran. They go to Molokini and a second snorkel destination. Departs at 6:45am and returns at 12:45pm. They provide all snorkel gear and instruction, a continental breakfast and a deli style lunch with beverages. Cost is $84.95.
For an adventurous snorkel trip, try Blue Water Rafting. This trip goes out in the Zodiac style rafts and heads south to the Kanaio Coast of Maui to the sea caves. Then back towards Kihei with a few stops for snorkeling. Many opportunities to see turtles and hopefully dolphins too. They provide all snorkel gear and instruction and a deli style lunch with beverages. 4 Hour Kanaio Coast is $99 + tax. And the 5 1/2 hour Kanaio/Molokini trip is $119 + tax. Kids rates available. (not a trip for anyone with a bad neck or back or pregnant)
Snorkel Lanai, I recommend the Maui Nui, a hard-bottom inflatable raft. It is the largest of the rafts that can accommodate up to 48 passengers and has a restroom on board. They leave out of Lahaina Harbor. They offer a 1/2-day trip that includes continental breakfast, deli lunch, and 2 snorkel spots. The price is $89 for adults, $59 for kids. The crew is a lot of fun. (Not a trip for anyone with a bad neck or back or pregnant)
The Trilogy Discover Lanai Trip is a full day adventure. Departing Lahaina Harbor, Monday through Friday 6:15 am and return back at 4pm. Includes continental breakfast with Mom's homemade cinnamon rolls and BBQ lunch at the pavilion overlooking Manele Bay. Snorkeling equipment & instruction included, volleyball, Van tour of Lana'i's old plantation town. Cost is $179 per person + tax. They also offer a later sunset trip with dinner that departs Lahaina at 10am and arrives back at 7:30pm.
The Kapalua Kai snorkel trip departs from Kaanapali Beach at 10am and returns at 3pm. They have a fruit platter for snacks while you motor up to Honolua Bay, which is a marine preserve and offers great snorkeling. You can listen in on a snorkel instruction if you are new to snorkeling. There are a variety of flotation devices provided. After snorkeling you will enjoy a deli style lunch with open bar, sodas, beer and wine. After lunch, they hoist the sails and sail back to Kaanapali Beach. Cost is $106.95 for adults and $74.80 for kids 12 and under.
Dinner Cruise or Sunset Sail, Maui Princess Dinner Cruise departs from Lahaina Harbor at 5: 30pm and returns at 8:00pm. This cruise includes dinner on the upstairs open-air deck. Dinner includes green salad, 1/2 chicken or Prime Rib, potato, vegetable and desert. Also includes 3 alcoholic beverages and unlimited soft drinks. Live music and dancing after dinner in the air- conditioned main cabin. Cost is $89.88 + tax.
The Kapalua Kai has a nice sunset sail that departs from Kaanapali Beach at 4:45 and goes out for 2 hours. A bit more romantic as there are not so many people and it is a much more intimate setting. Light appetizers and drinks are on board. The cost is $64.08 per person including taxes.
Surf Lessons are popular for teens, but suitable for all ages. They offer 2-hour small group lessons and guarantee that you will learn to surf. After the lesson, you can stay and use their boards if available to practice. Cost of the lesson is $60 per person + tax for a group lesson, $85 per person for semi-private lessons.
Haleakala Van Tour. It is a full day trip. Ekahi Tours has a tour to watch the sunrise on top of the crater, includes hotel pick up and breakfast at the Pukalani Country Club. Approximately 3am pick- up and return 10am, for $90 per person. Or with a company called Temptation Tours, they have luxury Limo vans and only take 6-8 persons. Quite a bit more comfortable and includes run of the menu breakfast at Kula Lodge. Cost is $179 + tax.
Hana Van Tour, I recommend Temptation Tours. They do a first class tour in a luxury Limo van. There are large captain's chairs and it is a real spacious and comfortable van. A big cooler of drinks is kept in the back and the lunch is a beach side picnic on White tablecloths, excellent lunch with salad and a 1/2 smoked chicken, pasta salad and cookies for after. Also includes a continental breakfast. Lots of stops, you can swim in a waterfall pool. Cost for this trip is $179 + tax. Ekahi Tours also has Hana tour for $110 + tax
Horseback riding, you really have to decide of whether you want to ride in the crater, the rainforest, to a waterfall, in a lava fields, or a pineapple field. No companies ride on the beach. Costs range from $99-$185 per person + tax. Makena Stables is about 10-15 minutes from the Wailea resort. They offer 3 rides, either the 2 hour ride in the morning for $125 + tax, the 3 hour ride in the morning for $145, or the 3 hour sunset ride for $165. Makena stables rides in a lava field area where the last eruption of Mt. Haleakala flowed, over looking La Perouse Bay. Beautiful views.
Pony Express offers 2 different crater rides. They have a half-day Junction ride which includes lunch, hours from 9am-3pm. The elevation change is approximately 2,500' to the Crater floor along 3.8 miles of gently sloping trails. Cost is $169 + tax. Or the Full day Cabin ride which is from 9:30am-5pm, this is the longest trail ride on Maui covering 12 miles. They go all the way to the Crater floor for a cost of $195 + tax. Minimum age is 12. Maximum weight is 235 pounds.
Zip Line The Haleakala Skyline Tour blends a short hiking experience with five picturesque zipline crossings, an “Indiana Jones” style swinging bridge, and an introduction to Hawaii’s unique and fragile landscape. It is located on Haleakala, near the crater. They have tour times at 8:30 or 9:30 are the first two times. Cost is $79 per person + tax. Requirements are 10 years of age and older, weight between 80-260 lbs. Closed toe shoes, long pants. Not afraid of heights, not pregnant and able to hike 1/2 mile at 4200 foot elevation.
Seasonal Activities
Whale Watch Tours, December 16 to May 15 For the whale watch, you can enjoy seeing whales from your snorkel boat, but if you feel like you need to see additional whales, then you can join a Pacific Whale Foundation whale watch trip from $20-$35. There are about 17 trips daily from Lahaina Harbor and Maalaea Harbor.
Parasailing, May 16 to December 15 is done up by the Kaanapali Area. The company I use is called UFO Parasailing. They take 6 people out on the ski boat and each person gets either a 7 or 10 minutes flight. Short but it seems like a long time when you are sailing up there. You take off and land right on the boat. 7 minutes, 400 feet cost is $65. 10 minutes, 800 feet cost is $75. Non- flying observers are $30. Minimum weight requirement is 130 LBS to fly alone.
Jet Skiing, May 16 to December 15 is done from a platform out in front of the Hyatt. They operate every day from 9am - 4pm. Rates are as follows: 1/2 hour rental is $60 per machine, $15 for an additional rider Full hour rental is $95 per machine, $15 for an additional rider
